Mark Bünger leads research and advisory at InnovationLab (iLab) in clients’ moonshot projects. He focuses on deep tech – science-driven technologies that will have disruptive impacts on commercial markets – synthetic biology being a main contender. Mark collaborates with the SynBioBeta team on its industry research reports and new client projects. For 12 years before joining iLab, Mark was VP of Research at Lux Research, where he started the company’s biosciences practices and consulting team, and led the futures and foresight service. He started coverage of biochemical computing as a principal analyst at Forrester Research in 2005, and before that worked as a managing director at Icon Medialab in Sweden, and technology project manager at Accenture. He was the technical co-founder of an early online payment company, SoftCoin (acquired by US retail giant Kroger) and was Chairman of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce. In addition to studying business at the University of Texas and Mälardalen Polytechnic (Sweden), he worked in neurology and nanobioengineering at the University of California San Francisco.
