Dr. Bastian has over 26 years of international leadership experience in leading life science & healthcare corporations serving researchers and companies with innovative products and service solutions. Dr. Bastian earned his diploma in biology/ biochemistry from Georg-August University Goettingen, and holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology pursued at the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Goettingen, Germany.
Today, Dr. Bastian leads the Synthetic Biology business as Vice President & General Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific out of Carlsbad, California, USA. Previously, Dr. Bastian served as Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer at Indivumed, Hamburg, Germany, as Vice President of Global Marketing, Business Development & Strategy Research Biotech and member of the leadership team at Sigma-Aldrich in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and as Executive Vice President of the Life Science Services business and member of the Senior Executive Management Team at SGS in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Bastian joined SGS after more than 11 years with QIAGEN in Hilden, Germany, where he was a member of the Executive Steering Committee and held various management positions, most recently as Vice President Molecular Diagnostics, Vice President Global Strategic Marketing, Vice President PreAnalytiX. Dr. Bastian is an alumnus from the Max-Planck-Network and the Columbia Business School, NYC, NY, USA.
