Synthetic Biology Week takes place from Sunday September 30 to Saturday October 6, 2018 and brings together innovators, creators, and dreamers who are building a better world with biology. Synthetic Biology Week is a celebration of biological engineering in art, design, industry, and our daily lives. With activities ranging from lab tours to hikes to workshops and talks, there are hands-on activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Join us for the Global Synthetic Biology Summit at Mission Bay, October 1 – 3, or for any of the wide range of free satellite events taking place at businesses, universities and event spaces throughout the Bay Area.

Who should attend? There will be a wide variety of events geared toward different audiences, including scientists, artists, investors, students, families and members of the general public. Which parts of Synthetic Biology Week you attend is completely up to you, depending on what sparks your interest and curiosity.
What are some examples of Synthetic Biology Week events? There will be many hands-on activities and lab tours, as well as talks on science and engineering, workshops, movies, “NightLife” events, discussions, and science hikes.
How many events will there be? We are launching with about 30 events, and we anticipate about 100 events throughout the week.
Do I have to pay for events? Many events are free. Some may have an admission fee, and this is noted in the event description. You need to pay to attend the “Global Synthetic Biology Summit”.
Where will Synthetic Biology Week take place? Beyond the main conference at Mission Bay, Synthetic Biology Week events will take place throughout the Bay Area.
How do I get to events? A combination of BART, Caltrain and ride-sharing (Lyft / Uber) allows you to easily and inexpensively travel around the Bay Area to the various event taking place as part of Synthetic Biology Week. Most events are spaced an hour apart, which should provide enough time to get between them. Try and avoid rush hour traffic.
Can my organization participate in Synthetic Biology Week? Yes! We are calling upon Bay Area companies and organizations to throw open their doors to friends, colleagues, and the public for workshops, lab tours, fireside chats, movie screenings, and more.
